OUR PROGRAMS
At CFF we believe that bicycles have an outstanding impact on households resulting in increased incomes and improved livelihoods.
1. Farmers Bicycle Financing Program(FBF)
Giving away free bicycles diminishes the value of a bicycle and we want every individual to know the value of his/her bicycle, take-care of it and keep it longer for other members of his/her household to create a long-term impact. At CFF’s, we designed a product pairing bicycle asset financing and a flexible repayment schedule to work for rural and small-scale farmers and provide accessible transportation.
Farmers meet a “prepayment” requirement which is often a reference letter from their local council leaders (LC1). Once a letter is provided, our staff will visit your farm, small shop etc. to ascertain your credit worthiness. If successful, you will be asked to fill a form, attach your National ID card and explained the monthly installments you are required to pay. A beneficiary will choose to make installments up-to 6 months. This program improves farmers productivity, mobility and contributes to rural development.
2. Community Bicycle Mechanics Program (CBM) (Commences August 2024)
CFF’S Community Bicycle Mechanic (CBM) program is a fantastic initiative that brings together people interested in cycling and mechanics to learn, share knowledge, and promote bicycle maintenance and repair skills within a community. These program aims to make cycling more accessible by providing affordable repair services, workshops, and educational opportunities. This program will be organized by our main mechanic Andrew Munkudane assisted by Samson, Juma and Geoffrey and has 3 components:
a. Workshops and Classes
Workshops and classes include: fixing a flat tire, adjusting brakes and gears, truing wheels and more complex repairs like replacing bottom brackets or overhauling hubs. Some students will be given an opportunity to work on dropping in clients who want to repair their bikes at the Bikes Hub shop.
b. Volunteer Mechanics
The CBM program will also involve recruiting and training volunteer mechanics who can assist with repairs during scheduled repair clinics or after loading container of bicycles from our partners. We receive a container of up-to 550 bicycles which need to be completely assembled before storage. Volunteers interested in the program may include experienced cyclists, professional mechanics, or enthusiasts looking to share their skills and may contact us by visiting our premises.
3. Community Bicycle Donations and partnerships (CBD)
Donating bicycles to the community is a wonderful way CFF supports accessibility and mobility, especially for those who may not have easy access to transportation.
CFF partners with local organizations or schools to identify individuals or families in need. Donations have gone to Ability Charitable Ministries, Japan International Agency Cooperation (JICA) Entebbe Parents School, Kayunga Pineapple Farmers Association, King James Secondary Lira, Robert Mumbere’s initiative. We are also in plans to partner with a non-profit organization called RAIN connected to us by Ms. Liz and Jay in Chicago to set-up a bicycle operating center in Mbale, Eastern Uganda. A new partner CFF is considering is “ LifeSong” a non profit that works with boys who need healing and aftercare support and use cycling to create awareness about their work.
4. CFF’s Bikes Hub Shop
One of the most common reasons people stop bicycling is because their bicycles breaks and maybe it’s a flat tire, absence of pressure or a bent wheel.
One of the most common reasons people stop bicycling is because their bicycles breaks and maybe it’s a flat tire, absence of pressure or a bent wheel. No matter the severity of the problem, if the bike owner doesn’t know how or have the time to fix their bike or there is no bike shop within walking distance, they will park the bike, sometimes for longer periods. Our solution was to put up a bicycle shop consisting of bicycles, parts and tools in that people or organizations that have obtained a bike from us can easily assess bike repair services, volunteer mechanics can train on job from walk in clients, those interested in renting, bike purchase etc. Profits for the shop support CFF’S organizational programs, pay shipping and customs costs of bicycle shipments and also general organizational administrative expenses.
5. School Cycling Clubs
CFF and our Bikes Hub shop organizes school cycling club events, every week in selected partner schools in and around Kampala sub-burbs. The school cycling clubs will promote physical activity, encourage young people to connect with friends, team work and environmental awareness. We consider partnering with local cycling organizations to have cycling fun days at schools or communities to raise awareness on keeping children fit for optmal health and boost their mental wellbeing.
6. Corporate Cycling
We will organize a cycling event for your team geared towards your cycling goal or contribute to a charity the company would like to support. This event involves employees coming together to ride bikes for a charitable cause or promote a healthy lifestyle. Supporting cycling aligns with Corporate Social Responsibility goals, demonstrating a commitment to promoting sustainable transportation options and employee health and wellbeing.
